For Workday conference booths: visitors answer a few questions, pull a crank, and watch a digital/physical hybrid Rube Goldberg machine reveal their workplace archetype.
Workday wanted something attention-grabbing for its trade show booths that would make people stop and interact. We pitched a physical/digital hybrid Rube Goldberg machine built to drive visitors to the booth's demo stations.
Overview
I designed the digital side of the machine, building it in 3D and creating the motion for every path the ball can take. I worked with a UX designer, an engineer, and the fabrication shop to bring the physical and digital pieces together.
My Role
Visitors answer a few questions, then pull a physical crank that launches a digital ball through the machine, which changes based on their answers. At the end it reveals their workplace archetype, pointing them to the matching demo station.
Process
The client loved it: it drew steady crowds and was still in use as the conference was shutting down. It was so successful that Workday wants it in other formats for future redeploys.
